Why does File>send link not work? Even right clicking on my mouse doesn't work. Is there a fix for this?

Why can I no longer send links to websites? Clicking File>Send Link doesn't work nor does right clicking on the mouse. Both worked prior to Firefox 6. I also can't send emails to websites that don't spell out their address but instead say "to send an email click here". Everything works fine in Chrome and Safari but not in Firefox.

Could you check whether your setting for mailto links has been deleted or become associated with a nonexistent email client? Here's how:

Firefox > Preferences > Applications

In the search box above the list, type or paste mailto and pause while the list is filtered.

If changing the drop-down in the right column doesn't improve things (sometimes switching to another provider, OKing that, then returning and switching it back will work), you might need to reset your application preferences. This article has more info on how to delete a file so Firefox will return to default settings: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/cant-download-or-save-files#w_reset-download-actions-for-all-file-types

Works great now. I prefer using gmail but it never even appeared in the mailto list. After the fix I was able to choose it as my preferred email. Thanks for your help.

Hi fitboss, what are you clicking on and what did the option previously say? Have you noticed any of your usual extensions being disabled in Firefox 16 beta (in case it was a feature of an extension)?

I just started having this problem today and I had already checked and double checked the mailto option and I have tried all 3 that are available. It always had/has been gmail and that has always worked, but starting today the option does not even appear when I right click.

In the past I could right click a page and get the option to send page or right click a link and get the option to send that link, but there is no option for sending anything.

I was thinking this the the update to v16 that happened in the last couple days but since many of these similar posts are a month old or more, I guess that might not be the issue!

Screen shot attached of the options that come up now when I right click!

Thanks, Mark

Hi markmeldrum, if you are running Firefox 16, this was an intentional change. Please see this thread: When I right click the email link no longer shows up in the context menu in FF 16. (And please don't shoot the messenger. ;-)

OK well after first reverting to an older version of firefox to get my right click menu options back I have since discovered one way that works but at a cost.

By using the addon menu-editor it is possible to move the EMAIL LINK button from the file menu to the (Main Context Menu) ie the "right click menu" BUT you will loose the file menu button as there is no way to clone the button and only move a copy. Bunch of clowns that decided to do this I really don't know what they were thinking. Very VERY stupid move.

Here is a link to the only option that works https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/menu-editor/

Can you fellows/chaps at least provide a clone and move option in the menu-editor?
