I can no longer watch videos on Facebook with Mac Snow Leopard iMac. Firefox 17.0.1 Current Flash 11.5.

I can watch videos fine on u-tube and Safari and other sites. But on Facebook in Firefox (my one and only favorite browser) where I always used to be able to watch videos just fine, I now just get a black screen and what appears to be endless loading and no sound. Even with a mere 30-second video of my own, which others can watch, I can no longer watch this or any other video on Facebook. Others can watch the videos I load, but I cannot watch any videos myself. Used to be able to this with old Firefox and old Flash no problem. Updates of both led to problems, but only on Firefox and only on Facebook.

I tried unchecking the disable hardware acceleration thing and quitting and restarting Firefox, which apparently worked for someone with windows having a slightly different problem (They were at least getting sound). Problem solved for them but has remained for me whether the hardware acceleration option is checked or unchecked..

Is the solution to give up on Firefox and use another browser??

Did you check for extensions as a possible cause?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Okay, that helps. Thank you. I disabled Flash Block and now videos on Facebook will play.

Is there a way to keep or update FlashBlock and still have Facebook videos work? Because FlashBlock is a great add-on for blocking animated ads and really annoying stuff elsewhere.

I never could figure out how to start in safe mode, but going to extensions and temporarily disabling them one at a time worked. I only have ad-block and flash-block.

I used to have no problem watching videos on Facebook, when I wanted to, with flash block enabled before recent updates.

So this appears to be the bug that hopefully Firefox can work out. Is there an updated Flash block I can use that will still allow me to watch videos on Facebook? Or a fix to the updated Firefox that will allow this? All worked well before updates to FF 17.0.1 and Flash Player Updates.

This extension conflict is only with Firefox, not with other browsers. I prefer Firefox and I like to have Flash Block enabled.????
