Neither 'Most visited' nor 'Recent visited' lists ever change

I have tried the solutions described in previous threads with similar titles: creating a new 'smart' bookmark with a little bit of code, and setting a value in about:config to zero.

Neither helps - the list of 'most visited' & 'recent visited' are always the same as each other, and never change regardless of what I visit. And it isn't a question of the time period: I've had this Mac for about a year; every day I visit the same few sites, with a random few others. The list contains eight pages on one site that I visit each day, plus facebook, plus the weather forecast for my old area - but never 'acquires' the news feed site I've used since the demise of Google reader.

So - is it possible to have a working 'most visited'? Or should I just delete it? And if it is possible, would it be possible to have it just select a landing page from each site, rather than claiming than including (for example) both the login & logout page of my webmail?

Please update to the current Firefox 24 release.

  • Help > About Firefox

The Firefox 8 version that you currently run is no longer supported with security updates.

  • It is important to update Firefox and add-ons to the latest version to get all security fixes.

"Most Visited" and "Recently Bookmarked" and "Recent Tags" are examples of so called Smart Bookmarks folders and are not real existing folders.
Such smart folders show a list created by a query of the places.sqlite database that stores the bookmarks and the history in Firefox.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

Interesting: Firefox is supposed to automatically update, and 'About Firefox' a) says I'm on the 'release update channel' and b) does nothing (visible) when I say 'check for updates'.

So, I've gone ahead & started again, downloading the current package.

If that doesn't work, I'll try the other links. Back later!

Now upgraded - and given that if I instruct the History to 'forget this site', that site then disappears from my 'Most visited' list, I reckon it's working again.

Thanks.

I spoke to soon. The list does behave as above - i.e. if I delete something from the History, it disappears from the list. But the list itself doesn't change in normal use - so upgrading gave a one off appearance of a fix, but the underlying problem remains.
