Cannot send or receive email through Verizon server after Thunderbird update
After updating Thunderbird, Verizon server no longer recognizes my password, so authentication keeps failing. I can neither send nor receive email. Account settings are correct. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi,
We switched from DSL to FIOS. As a result, I was given a new email address, but arranged with Verizon the ability to use my original verizon.net email address. I didn't have any problems accessing mail from the original account for several weeks after the conversion to FIOS. For some reason, around the time I updated Thunderbird, the original email address and password were no longer recognized by Verizon. After working with them, they were able to restore access. But then, later that same day, I was unable to login. Back to Verizon...went through the same procedure and got things restored again. It's been working for a few days now. Hopefully it will continue to do so indefinitely!

Per Verizon's instructions, all server settings are configured correctly. I tried to send an email and received the following error message:
Sending of message failed. An error occurred sending mail: Could not get password for smtp.verizon.net. The message was not sent.
Thanks.
I forgot to mention that I am able to access my Verizon email on the Verizon website. After sending my previous reply, i tried to get mail with Thunderbird and received this message:
Sending of password did not succeed. Mail server pop.verizon.net responded: Authorization failed.
Thanks.
What are your SMTP settings for Verizon, is the port set to 465 using SSL?
Last person I had complaining that they could not send mail using Verizon after the update had not updated their setting as requested by Verizon.
Are your server settings set to Server pop.verizon.net Port 995 Connection security SSL
yes and yes
What happens if you reset the password? Tools (or AppMenu/Options)/Options/Security/Passwords/Saved Passwords, delete the password, OK, restart TB, enter the correct password when prompted at the next connection.
No change.
I don't think your server settings are correct. Verify the settings again, and apply the correct server names.

Hello,
The issue has been resolved after a great deal of contact with Verizon. The problem was on Verizon's end, not on the user end. Whew! I'm happy to report that I haven't lost my marbles, although if I have to call Verizon again I just might!

Thanks for trying to help!
Truscan, can you tell us what the issue was? Or try :)
We need to get our new knowledge somewhere.

Thank you for taking the time truscan.
I'd love help with this problem, too. For no apparent reason, my Verizon emails have stopped downloading, though I can still send. My settings are updated to pop.verizon.net and port 995. I spent lots of time on the phone with Verizon and they're stumped. I can get my email on my phone and log in to their site, and my other non-Verizon accounts are downloading fine. It just says "no messages to download." Thank you!
