Unable to restore bookmarks backup after removing malware
Yesterday I encountered the “Video Update Recommended” malware popup. I have no idea how it got on my machine. Attempting to remove it, I followed the steps listed here: http://malwaretips.com/blogs/video-update-recommended-removal/
One of the recommended steps I followed was to reset Firefox via the Help/Troubleshooting Information/Reset Firefox button. I then ran AdwCleaner.exe, as advised, to identify and remove files infected with adware. It identified two files - one was a Chrome profile file, and another this: AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\q091vh1w.default-1397082395838\prefs.js
I removed these files. Following this, my bookmarks disappeared.
I would like to restore bookmarks from backup. I can see the ..json files in my bookmarksbackup folder. However, I'm unable to follow the procedure recommended here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/restore-bookmarks-from-backup-or-move-them#w_restoring-from-backups The bookmarks icon does not appear on my navigation toolbar. I'm unable to add it via right-clicking on that toolbar and selecting "Customize". Therefore I can't perform the Restore procedure.
This leaves me with two concerns. 1) My bookmarks are still missing 2) Is my installation of Firefox corrupt and perhaps infected?
I'm using Firefox 28.0.
Thank for your attention. Please advise.

Hi,
You can restore your bookmarks by the CTRL key + SHIFT key + B to open up the Bookmarks manager. You can then follow the remaining steps.
Also, you can restore your default icons in Firefox by clicking Firefox button > View > Customize > Restore Default Set.
