JSON bookmark files need to be Restored, not Imported which is for HTML exports of bookmarks from Firefox.

Also make sure the the backup file has the correct file extension.

  • .html for a HTML backup
  • .json for a JSON backup

You can check the file type via the right-click context menu of that file and open the Properties.

If you are not sure about the file type then you can open the file in Firefox via "Firefox > New Tab > Open File" or "File > Open File".

A JSON backup will show as one long text line without line breaks and a HTML backup shows as a web page with clickable links.

A JSON backup starts with: {"title":"","id":1,"dateAdded":
An HTML backup starts with: <!DOCTYPE NETSCAPE-Bookmark-file-1>

Verify the file type in the Properties via the right-click context menu to make sure that the change has been successful.

bookmarks-2014-04-22_8.json =this is the file,...???

Yes, that is a JSON bookmarks backup file with eight bookmarks in it as you can see by the last part of the name before the .json file extension.

You need to restore such a JSON backup via Import & Backup > Restore > Choose File

  • Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Restore > Choose File

Note that this will replace all the bookmarks that you currently have, so if you've added new bookmarks that you want to keep then make an HTML backup (importing an HTML backup merges bookmarks with existing bookmarks).
