AVG Anti-virus 9 has several features that interact with Firefox. This article describes how to enable and disable some of these features.
AVG extensions for Firefox
AVG Anti-virus automatically installs extensions for Firefox. Some users may prefer to use Firefox without these extensions.
AVG Security Toolbar
AVG Anti-virus automatically installs a Firefox toolbar. To disable it:
- On the menu bar, click and select . The Add-ons window will appear.
- Click to select the panel.
- Click to select AVG Security Toolbar.
- Click the button.
- Click the button to make the changes take effect.
Disabling the AVG Security Toolbar does not affect your antivirus protection settings.
AVG Safe Search
The AVG Safe Search and Link Scanner features may cause unnecessary network traffic. Firefox already protects you from malicious links - see How the phishing and malware protection in Firefox works for information. To disable the AVG features and just use the built-in Firefox protection:
- Disable the AVG Safe Search extension in Firefox:
- On the menu bar, click and select . The Add-ons window will appear.
- Click to select the panel.
- Click to select AVG Safe Search.
- Click the button.
- Click the button to make the changes take effect.
- Change AVG's settings:
- Close Firefox.
- Open the AVG User Interface - click on the Windows button, select , , and then select .
- In the AVG Anti-virus window, click the
menu and then select . - On the left side of the window, click Link Scanner. Link Scanner settings panel will open in the right side of the window.
- Click to un-check the Enable AVG Search-shield and Enable the AVG Active Surf-Shield boxes. Then click the
button. - On the left side of the window, click Ignore Faulty Conditions. The Ignore faulty components condition panel will open in the right side of the window.
- Click to check the LinkScanner box. Then click the
button. - Click the button to close the Advanced AVG Settings window.
- Click the X in the top-right corner of the AVG Anti-virus window to close it.
