I can receive emails but not send them with GoDaddy domain - nothing works

I purchased a new domain from GoDaddy and I'm trying to set up a new POP account and/or IMAP account in Thunderbird so that I don't need to use their Microsoft 365 mail. The account settings appear to be correct, and I went over them many times with tech support. I can RECEIVE emails using this new account, but cannot use it to SEND emails. I get an SMTP time out. The firewall/virus scanner isn't blocking it, and all my other accounts (Gmail, Hostmonster, etc) work just fine. It's only with this one that no one seems to be able to get it working. What is the solution?

What are the correct server settings as advised by GoDaddy?

Can you post your Troubleshooting Information? Help (Alt-H) - Troubleshooting Information

These are the settings advised by GoDaddy:

POP Setting

Server name: outlook.office365.com Port: 995 Encryption method: SSL

IMAP Setting

Server name: outlook.office365.com Port: 993 Encryption method: SSL

SMTP Setting

Server name: smtp.office365.com Port: 587 Encryption method: TLS

I've gone over them about a dozen times now with GoDaddy tech support. They're all correct. Then then had me ping office365.com and suggested I used the results there for the SMTP settings:

office-namsouth2.office365.com Port: 587 Encryption method: TLS

No combination of settings seems to work.

Here are the results of the troubleshooting test:

I am not, repeat NOT about to "upgrade" Thunderbird. I do not like later versions, the one I have works perfectly for me. So that option is off the table.

Can there be some hidden settings that I'm not seeing? I can RECEIVE emails sent from any other account TO the godaddy account, but I cannot SEND messages from it.

I have the same problem.

I identificate the problem in the Self Made SSL Certificate. New versione 38.1.0 fails with

  ssl_error_weak_server_cert_key

to search if a certificate is local trasted and my be to request to user if the certificate is trusted.

more options

Huh? I have no idea what you're trying to say.

I identified this problem in version 38.1.0:

Try to go to Menu -> tools -> errors console (i do not know the exact name of the menu in English, I have in Italian).

Search an error that contains this text:    ssl_error_weak_server_cert_key

If there is a problem then your problem is a bug about SSL Certificate. I too have this problem because my IMAP server uses a certificate self-made (not purchased).

This problem (which the developers have not yet identified) was introduced with version 38.1.0 of thunderbird.

A confirmation of my thesis I also found this on the net:    https://fossies.org/diffs/thunderbird/38.0.1.source_vs_38.1.0.source/mozilla/security/nss/lib/ssl/sslerr.h-diff.html

In version 38.0.1 when thunderbird found a certificate weak prompting the user whether to trust the Certificate. The new version does not do it anymore.

Please, correct this bug.

Server settings for GoDaddy are different as per this GoDaddy support site. https://www.godaddy.com/help/thunderbird-set-up-your-workspace-email-4878

I checked the errors and there is nothing about any ssl_error_weak_server_cert_key errors. I checked that GoDaddy site, and the settings seem to be correct. I've called GoDaddy but their tech support is terrible. The last rep laughed out loud when I asked for a Tier 2 tech support. This is why I'm posting here. Can anyone please figure this out?

The settings from the article are entirely different than what you said 'are the settings advised by GoDaddy'. GoDaddy support should be able to tell which are correct. You can still give the settings from the article a try.

Clueless-Bob, have you solved your problem?
