Unable to send emails from my Laptop. Drop down box says "Outgoing server (SMTP) failed. I have compared settings on PC and are the same as the laptop. Have contacted my server provider and that is all ok. Can send emails from Optus webmail, but not from Thunderbird. Can send emails from the PC and that has Thunderbird also.

Hi ! I am using the latest firefox on win11 (latest updates). Since approx 2-3 days whenever I try to comment on youtube or edit an existing comment I cannot see what I am typing. I can still type and commit, the comment will appear and I it will contain what I typed. But when doing it initially it is invisble to me. If I reply to a comment I can see what I type.

Below 1st image shows a comment box I am actively typing in. Everything is invisible. 2nd image shows when I open a reply, you can clearly see the prompt and when I start typing it shows my input

In another thread, someone mentioned there is a new option for the sidebar to "collapse" which I guess means to close itself, but that isn't happening on mine yet. CLARIFICATION OF MY QUESTION: I checked the way you said and the sidebar.revamp already says false. What I am talking about is as follows: In the windows 10 we had, and using Firefox, there was the complete My Bookmaks list on the left side, from top to bottom. Those not showing I could scroll down through them. It also had a search bar where I could search for a sepcific bookmark. (I have had 2 strokes and I cannot remember things if I can't see it as I do it.) NOW, however, with Windows 11, there is a "tab" I guess you call it on the left end of the ribbon. If I click on that, the My Bookmarks expands down (like it did look before) and I can scroll down if the one I am looking for is below the shown part of the list. HOWever, if I go to type anything outside of that list, it collapses back to the tab. It also does NOT have the search bar for the bookmarks at all. So if I cannot remember where the bookmark is located (I have 95 bookmarks) I have to scroll down through most of them to find it. What I want is for the entire bookmark list to REMAIN visible or on top when I am doing other things. Ialso would like to be able to search for a specific bookmark which would bring it right up.

I cannot find current instructions for changing 'dns over https' default resolver. The only instructions I've found reference 'Settings', 'General', 'Network Settings' and 'Configure Proxy Access to the Internet'.

DNS over https isn't located there with FF 132.

How do I change the default resolver to custom resolver?

When i log into Instagram, Gmail, or Facebook i get a message that says "this browser no longer supported. Update to newer version" i am running 132.0.2. i have been using Firefox since version 0.7 and still prefer FF to all other browsers.

Hi, I download some e-mails. After checking the emails, I want all of them to be deleted from thunderbird but... ...I want only specified emails deleted from server.

In Mac's "Mail" program, there was a special window, where I could see all e-mails on server and just select which I want to remove from server.

In old Outlook, I've used "Rules". There I could set the parameters for specified e-mails and then tell outlook to "leave that message on server" or "Don't download that message from server".

TL;TR. Thunderbird should not change the whole folder (e.g. Inbox) during compacting by replacing "From" with "From - Mon May 3 20:50:30 2004" and the other way round. It dramatically increases the size of incremental backups done by tools detecting only blocks of bigger files which change.

Longer version. I use Borg to backup Thunderbird profile. It supports deduplication and can incrementally backup only parts of bigger files which have changed. As I use filters to automatically move messages from Inbox to the other folders, before backup, I perform compacting of the Inbox folder to effectively remove moved messages (and those deleted manually - e.g. the biggest ones). I worked pretty fine - there were no changes detected by Borg in the old messages. Only new messages were backed up.

However, it worsen in the recent months - Borg started to detected changes also in the old messages in Inbox (after compacting performed before the every backup session). As a result, a (compressed) incremental copy takes ~1/3 of the whole Inbox (instead of some MBs). For Inbox having 5GB+, it can be a problem (e.g. when - slow - network storage is used).

I diffed the Inbox file before and after of recent compacting and Thunderbird around an upgrade to 128.x (I cannot tell exactly which minor version it was) changed the "From" line for every message from just "From" to "From - Thu Nov 14 22:32:10 2024" (a date when the compaction was performed). In older backups I see that some earlier versions of Thunderbird removed the date replacing the line with just "From".

My question. Had it been an accidental change (with removing the date) which was later reverted and there will be no more "rewriting" compacted folders? Or it's "more complicated" and people using incremental backup cannot sleep peacefully?

I've recently installed Thunderbird 128. I want to setup auto-reply but I have not found where to enable it despite looking through Settings and Account Settings.

I have composed an auto-reply and saved it as a Template - however, I cannot find where it is saved.

Also, the Actions in Manage Message Filters does not list "Reply with Template".

Any idea how to resolve this, please?

Windows crashed my computer. now that it has been corrected i need to restore my old FireFox page and bookmarks. How can I do this? i prefer to speak with a rep. Ive tried following on the web but have no success.

In Windows 11, the Address Book is accessed via an icon on top left of the TB main page or Alt+2. In Windows 11 is there a similar key combination to view the folders below Local Folders?

My browser has become unreliable and flaky. Bookmarks are changed each time I open it. New bookmarks are added and duplicate bookmarks appear. I also have two Firefox icons on my taskbar. What's going on here? Can you help? Thanks, Tom C

Mcfee was downloaded along Adobe reader. When I try to uninstall all I get is a partial box. I can see partial boxes in the bottom that I can't get at. Really the only thing I can fully read is to minimize or to exit with X. It doesn't do anything after this point. How can I get it off my drive?

Hi. I am trying to import into my new Mac an old Thunderbird profile that was created in a PC, but that I use in my previous Mac. In the past, I have dragged the old profile into the new profile folder, and then used About Profiles under Troubleshooting Information to link to that imported profile and set it as the Default. Now, I click on Create a New Profile and it won't let me link. Also, the Import tool did not work. What am I missing? Thank you!

My email hosting provider is is using mailchannels spam filter for outbound email, and after I switched from K9 to Thunderbird (Android) all my outgoing emails are being marked as spam and blocked. I have a ongoing case logged with them but checking if any one has any advice or has similar issues?

Note k9 works fine, I'm guessing they are confused with headers from PC vs mobile version

I had had issues with gloda (search) for a long while. I have tried deleting the sqlite file to force a reindex as per the guidance. I am watching Activity Monitor in TB after reopening, to monitor the reindex process. But it hangs every time. it goes through sent items and seems to get stuck at one point every time. Is it possible to copy Tunderbird email files to the computer's documents. Our server uses POP, so they can only be accessed on my PC and not other devices. Thanx.
