I have been very happily using 115.15. Then, yesterday, I was upgraded to a new version that breaks my extensions. Thus I deleted the compatibility.ini file and downloaded 115.15 and installed that (windows os btw). Now everything works beautifully, except for the tags panel. The message number in the tags panel in the folder panel on the left does not update, and no messages appear in the message pane when I click on one of the tags.

What can I do to get this to work again?

On 9/10/24, I tried to download my email and got the message: "Unable to write the email to the mailbox. Make sure the file system allows you write privileges, and you have enough disk space to copy the mailbox." To my knowledge, nothing had changed on my Win 10 computer, so why this is suddenly showing up is unclear. I have 555 GB of free space on my C: drive, so space isn't an issue. I don't know why the permissions would have changed.

I checked the TB help and found that there was an update, so I installed that. I checked for updates a second time and found another one which I applied too. TB is now at "128.2.0esr (32-bit)" according to Help > About.

I tried restarting TB in troubleshooting mode, but that didn't help. Can someone suggest a way out of this?

Thanks in advance.

This relates to Thunderbird 128.2.0esr (64-bit) running under Windows 10 Pro.

Upon receiving new mail messages in a Unified Inbox, the Thunderbird logo with a red dot properly pops up in the Notification area per the attached screenshot, and the Inbox title in the Windows tray also shows the correct number of new messages. Reading or deleting these messages will either reduce the boldface entry or remove the message from the message pane, but the red dot notification icon and new message count persists. The only way to clear these seems to be to expand the Unified Inbox to show all email accounts, and then simply click sequentially on the account names until the notification drops from the Windows tray. Is this a bug or normal operation?

Hello,

I have had this issue since at least 2022 starting with version 102.4.1. I am currently running 128.1.0esr on OS 14.6.1.

I figured I would post again, as it has been a few years and the previous posts are now archived, to see if any new solution options are known.

In short, Thunderbird runs perfectly fine in troubleshoot mode. When launched normally, it locks up as soon as it checks for new messages, I get the spinning beach ball, and I have to force quit to close it. Letting it sit for an extended time has no impact. Screenshot of status when it locks is attached.

If I start in Troubleshoot Mode it works normally. No problems at all. I don't appear to have any add-ons or extensions running, so I don't understand why this is fixing things. I've just been running it in troubleshoot mode for years now, which is fine, but annoying.

The only themes, extensions, or add-ons present are "light," "dark," and "system theme -auto." Nothing else.

I had read a previous post about disabling access to Contacts in System Preferences, I tried that, no luck. I also deleted all add-ons and extensions files, and folders. Folders were empty, no change.

Any other theories?

We have an internal GitLab server at work and I would like to subscribe to one of the atom feed. When adding the URL to Thunderbird, I get "The Feed URL is not a valid feed."

Of course, sending this internal URL to the feed validation service does not work. If I validate the feed content manually, it is indeed valid.

Is there a way to subscribe to an internal, non-public feed?

Seems to say that TB displays [a message that had been downloaded] not by reading it from folder in computer, instead by reading it from sever. If something different is meant, then please clarify.

Hiya, I want to add my work account to thunderbird but it requires me to sign in via SSO (had to add the Microsoft SSO extension to chrome to make it work there).

The thunderbird browser cannot do this and cannot see any way to use chrome instead. It looks like setting up an 'app password' as some suggested online has been disabled as the option does not exist for me.

What options are there?

so I am working through downloading python and chromedriver and dealing with PATH issues re: selenium, pip, etc when I start getting first an email error message:

Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. The old Thunderbird process must be closed to open a new window.

I do not have thunderbird open. i confirm in task manager. don't think anything of it. then firefox starts doing the same thing.

at this point, I am already uninstalling the other software above to try a new, clean install and I am required to restart.

after restart, weird stuff. half my desktop icons and explore files are now faded. neither TB or FF will work. I use chrome, see a bunch of the messages on here to first look at uninstalling and reinstall. Do it. Doesn't work. Next step - run down through appdata, roaming, etc to get to the profiles folders and delete the "profile.lock" file

Yes. This works for FF but WTH!!! I open TB and every email is gone. I go thru the process to zip my profile and import. Nope. Doesn't work. So i unzip the file into a thumbdrive and import using eml method.

TB does not keep my original format, duplicates all folders, and anything older than early 2023 is there but there is no longer a subject, sender, etc

I take a break. Today I am back at it. I cannot access new emails at all. I cannot delete the folders so I make a backup folder, uninstall and reinstall TB and the same thing.

How can I reset TB, import the old emails?

What is the importance if anything of profile.lock?

Any thoughts if working through issues on python, etc caused this?

This seems like a bug to me as it only seems to be happening with Icloud accounts. Should I report it as a bug?

I have two Gmail accounts that I use to manage the band I'm in. Let's call them 'venues@gmail.com' and 'punters@gmail.com'.

I access both accounts using Thunderbird 115.13.0 (64-bit), under Linux Mint.

When someone emails the band on the Punters address I reply to it in Thunderbird, which automatically sets my From: address as punters@gmail.com.

What happens next is that my reply appears in the Sent Items for BOTH Punters and Venues. The copy in the Punters sent folder says that it's from "Punters <punters@gmail.com>", but the copy in the Venues sent folder says it's from "Punters <venues@gmail.com>".

When I examine the headers, there's extra stuff in the copy in the Venues account, specifically a 'Received: from' entry that makes it look like the email has been routed via a Google server, so suspect this might be a Google issue and not a Thunderbird one, but I'm not sure.

The email headers for the two copies include the following lines:

Punters copy:

From: Punters <punters@gmail.com> Reply-To: punters@gmail.com

Venues copy:

From: Punters <venues@gmail.com> Reply-To: punters@gmail.com X-Google-Original-From: Punters <punters@gmail.com>

The problem I have is that when people reply back to my reply, while most often they're sent to punters@gmail.com, sometimes they're sent to venues@gmail.com. That is, some email clients appear to be sending to what's in the 'From:' field, not the 'Reply-To:' field (or the X-Google-Original-From one). The Venues address is only used by me, where the Punters address is shared with two other band members, so it matters what email address people reply to.

I've examined the account settings for both email addresses in Thunderbird and in Google, and can't work out what's going on.

I've been using this email setup for the last decade. I'm not sure when this started happening, but possibly only within the last 6 months or so.

Has anyone seen this behaviour before and know how to stop it?

I hope I’ve chosen the correct category. I believe this qualifies as a bug following the recent update.

When I opened Thunderbird today, it notified me about the update. While Thunderbird successfully fetches new emails, it fails to display them correctly.

As shown in the screenshot, the area where the email content should appear is completely white. Additionally, it incorrectly displays an attachment from an old email that has nothing to do with today’s email (10:13), aside from the fact that both were sent to me.

When I click on other emails in the same inbox, the content area doesn’t change—it remains blank. However, if I switch to a different inbox, everything works fine.

I’ve also double-checked using my phone’s mail app, and I’m able to open the email in that inbox without any issues.

I’m unsure how to fix this. Could someone more knowledgeable help me out?
