Why doesn't Thuderbird IMAP my BT account in the inbox? It maps sent items and draft, but gets stuck 'thinking' about the inbox.
I have just migrated to a new laptop and have set up Thunderbird with various work and personal accounts. All the gmail accounts work fine, but the I am experiencing some problems with my btinternet account.
1. When it sends an email if gets stuck at the end of sending and when I cancel it it says that the email could not be saved to the sent folder. Yet when I look at the sent folder it is there and when I check people have received what has been sent. 2. When I click on the inbox folder it starts thinking, but will not show any of the emails that are in the BT email inbox.
I have set up all the accounts I'm asking Thuderbird to manage as IMAP accounts.
Any help i sorting this would be gratefully received :-)

1) Wait until it times out, and then choose 'Retry'.
2) What is your anti-virus software?

It just gets stuck in 'thinking' mode no error message comes up, so I can't click 'retry' I'm using McAfee anti virus
Started up Thunderbird this morning and suddenly it is working with the BT account?!
I put the recommended changes to McAfee into effect anyway (thanks for the advice on this)
Shorthly afterward I got a message that says my BT account can't be accessed as the password is wrong. I've not changed the saved password, but I retype it anyway and it still tells me it is wrong. So I logged on online with the same password and it was fine. Then back to Thunderbird and it is suddenly able to access BT mail again. This seems to be more a BT problem and was just a coincidence, or am I missing something else?

Maybe. Just make sure you followed the steps wrt McAfee.
I've put all the recommended McAfee changes in, but this problem with accessing BT is now more persistent.
When it tries to access the account its come up with a 'login failed' error report telling me that the 'login to mail.internet.com failed' and offering the opportunity to 'retry, enter a new password, or cancel'. The same password works OK on BT when I go online. Is there a problem between Thunderbird and BT?
Try to reset the password Thunderbird has remembered for your BT account.
Delete the password in Thunderbird.
Restart Thunderbird.
Enter the password when being prompted.
