I downloaded an add-on to Firefox called QPush to send text messages from my Mac PC to my iPhone. It installed successfully. I see QPush listed among my Firefox extensions. But how do I run this add on. How do I use it to open a text field to write and send text messages to an iPhone?

According to the images on the QPush page you should have a button on the Navigation Toolbar.

You can also send selected text via the right-click context menu (QPush to Your Phone).

I was able to put a button on the Nav bar by first disabling and then enabling the Qpush add-on, but clicking the button does nothing, nor does right clicking.
