I deleted old version & installed new version. Bookmarks gone. Can I get them back?

I deleted old version & installed new version. Bookmarks gone. Can I get them back?

Solución elegida

I uninstalled using Revo Uninstaller which used the Firefox uninstaller and its own additional uninstaller. I was removing FF 34. I assume that the uninstall program removed the folders you allude to as I cannot find them, even in my recycle bin. I was able to stumble around and find a JSON file on my backup drive that reinstalled the bookmarks. It wasn't quite current but contained most of my bookmarks. Thanks for your offer of help. Guess I'll be more careful next time or just enroll in Sync.

If you had Firefox sync set up it is easy to get your bookmarks back. Take a look at this article . I hope this helps.

If I deleted Mozilla, will I find the places.sqlite fine in the recycle bin? Where would I find the profile folder in the recylce bin?

There is probably no need to delete Mozilla, whatever you mean with this because uninstalling Firefox doesn't affect your personal data in the profile folder.

You can try to delete all places files in the profile folder if running Places Maintenance doesn't have effect.

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

The "AppData" folder in Windows Vista and later Window 7+ versions and the "Application Data" folder in XP/Win2K are hidden folders.

I have already deleted Firefox and installed new version.

Did you uninstall Firefox via Windows Add / Remove Programs? Or uninstall Firefox using the Firefox uninstaller? If so, which version of Firefox did you uninstall? Prior to Firefox 31 there was an option to "Remove personal data and customizations ..." - your Profile folder. If you used that option, your data is gone. Firefox 32 and later, along with uninstalling Firefox thru Add / Remove in Windows would not have touched your Profile - that option is gone from the Firefox uninstaller routine - the new installation should have used your old Profile.

Now, if you did actually delete Firefox, do you recall deleting three "Firefox" or Mozilla folders that were in three separate locations? Program Files ~\<user>\AppData\Roaming\ ~\<user>\Local\AppData\Roaming\ The last two is where your Profile data is stored - the 2nd having your Bookmarks and personal data.

If you didn't delete the <user> folders your data should be there. Please follow cor-el posting to get to that folder.

These can't get your data back, but will help in the future.

These add-ons can be a great help by backing up and restoring Firefox

FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) {web link} FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions, history, passwords, and more. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your saved files individually into installable .xpi files. It will also make backup of files that you choose.
