Can I sign into Firefox sync on new computer and retrieve bookmarks even if old hard drive is destroyed?
My computer crashed & the hard drive's information cannot be retrieved. When I get a new hard drive put into this computer, can I simply download Firefox, sign into sync & automatically retrieve my old bookmarks? Do I need to alter any account sync settings before doing this?

It may work. Did you update to the new version of sync before the crash?
Firefox Sync isn't a backup system, so while it may work as a backup sometimes, it doesn't always.
I did have the latest version of Firefox on my computer before the crash, so I assume that means I had the latest version of sync??? If so, are you saying maybe it is stored in the cloud and recoverable, or maybe it is stored only on the hard drive and not recoverable? Do I alter any sync settings ahead of time or just download and try to sync?
Did you go through the steps at Sync your Firefox bookmarks, history, passwords and more? If not, you are using the old version of sync and are out of luck. If you did, you are on the new version and you have a good chance of being able to log in and download your data.
Thank you. Since I signed up for sync for the first time in the Summer of 2014, and it looks as if Firefox went to the new sync in April of 2014, then I supposed I should be OK.
I got my new computer today. About an hour ago I signed into sync and it said it would start syncing momentarily. I also hit "sync now" under tools. I also went to manage sync & put a check mark next to all the items under sync. So far it has been about an hour and I haven't seen any bookmarks coming up. What else should I be doing? Thanks.
