Doesn't display results of a keystroke until the NEXT keystroke is entered.
This started within the past week. It's particularly difficult when manually correcting a typo. After positioning the cursor, the first press of Delete APPEARS to do nothing. So I press Delete again, and the first delete is reflected by the character disappearing. But the next keypress displays the result of the SECOND delete press, deleting one more character than intended. Or, if I want to insert a character, it doesn't appear until I type that character again. Then everything looks fine until I move the corsor, at which point the character is inserted again, resulting in a double character instead of a single character. Even just typing normally leaves the display always showing one character behind what I've typed.
I've paused Carbonite, restarted Thunderbird and restarted my PC, all without effect.

Almost a month later and no responses. Has anyone else ever run into this? It's still going on and driving me crazy.
sorry nobody answered, but its such a weird problem. Does it ONLY appear in TB? If so:
To diagnose problems with Thunderbird, try one of the following:
- Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.
- Restart the operating system in safe mode with Networking. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, OSX
- If safe mode for the operating system fixes the issue, there's other software in your computer that's causing problems. Possibilities include but not limited to: AV scanning, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates.
Thanks for the quick reply!
If only the problem was constant. It comes and goes unpredictably. I tried to verify it's happening now before applying your suggestions, and I can't replicate it. A problem that can't be replicated can't easily be solved.
I originally blamed it on background Carbonite activity, but pausing Carbonite doesn't fix it (when it happens, of course).
As soon as this problem returns, I'll run your suggested diagnoses.
