On opening TBird today I noticed all my folder structure was 'collapsed', not something I often do myself.

Also on one email address only the "sent" "draft" and all subdirectories of of the "inbox" are missing, leaving only "inbox" and "deleted" foders.

All other email addresses seem unaffected. I have 5 POP 3 accounts, 2 gmail accounts and 2 Microsoft Exchange accounts...the affected account is one of the MSE accounts

There have been alot of similar cases with outlook/hotmail/office365 , so something is clearly going on.

Please try this to see if you can subscribe / show in folder pane again.

'tools' > 'Account Settings' > 'Server Settings' for the mail account or Right click on mail account name in Folder Pane and select 'Settings' select 'Server Settings' for the mail account click on 'Advanced' button uncheck: 'Show only subscribed folders'. clickon OK click on OK

then try to subscribe again. Right click on mail account and select 'Subscribe' See if this time you can select the folder. click on OK

Report back on results.

Thanks Tried this, step by step. I can select the folder I want to subscribe to but when I press OK it doesn't retain or action those selections so that when I open the subscribe box again everything is back to being unchecked. Any other suggestions? This is clearly the problem, just need for it to keep my selections. Strange thing is I have another exchange server account almost identical to the affected one, but this one appears to (touching wood here) untroubled. All selections are ticked and remain so when I close the box.

If you untick "Show only subscribed folders" in Server Settings > Advanced does it show all folders on the IMAP server in the Folder Pane - without doing the last part of subscribing?

I've created a bug report, asking for this to be checked out.

   https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1241926

As this is not actually affecting me - I don't have outlook/hotmail/office365 mail account, then it would be helpful if you could offer information for the bugzilla people. Please tell them : what OS you use. what version of thunderbird. What server you are trying to connect to subscribe folders. state what folders disappeared. state whether you could see folders in the 'subscribe' window etc you would need to register/logon to post comment. It would also be usefult to 'Vote' for the bug. Voting is located in the top section where it says: Importance: (vote)

It would appear that Microsoft released a bad update to their office365 / outlook.com servers which broke IMAP folders. Microsoft are working on the issue and promise to remediate the situation. For a workaround, please see my blog post. Unfortunately other an that there is nothing more we can offer until Microsoft fix their servers,

We are tracking this issue in Bug 1241926.
