I can't make Firefox my default browser on Windows 8.1. When I go to Firefox's Options page it says my default browser is Firefox but when I click on a line Internet Explorer 11.xx comes up

On further investigation I discovered not all apps that invoked a Web browser were affected. I am a little red faced here. The apps that have a problem are ones that were home grown. ' Further investigation is required by the home team. ' Consider this problem resolved.

Further information:

I have uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it to no avail. This may have some connection to the other problem I posted in regards to ransomeware being detected by Acronis.

Please do this 1st : use more than 1 scanner as each uses diff tech :

Save your Report and google each before deleting anything as do not want to delete something you need, If need help :

uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files(x86) Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. (Note: This should be Pinned and run Weekly, If never done below expect 10's of gig's) Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do :

Reinstall with Current Release Firefox 57.0.3 with a Full Version Installer
