I will not be updating my OS any time soon, I love XP and can't afford a new system anyway. Will Firefox stop trying to automatically update now?

What version are you running ? Today's update is ok to get if on the esr ver 52.9.0 and will update again I think Sept to 60.0.1 where you are finished. So yes update security stuff and then stop updating. All this security was fixed or improved :

You can move to Linux as a option. is a though to investigate.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Firefox 52.9.0 ESR is the last major update for the legacy Firefox 52 ESR. There might be one or more updates for security and or allowed stability fixes in meantime until Sept 5th when it will be EOL.

Firefox 53.0 and later including the Fx 60 ESR requires Windows 7,8,10 to run.
