My menu bar is screwed up. Formerly, I had such items as "Write" "Get Messages" etc. in my menu bar. Now, I have "Unread, Starred, Contact, Tags, and Attachment" in this bar. How can I get my original menu bar back?

The Menu Bar has File-Edit-View etc on it so you are not talking about the Menu bar. The Toolbar you describe above is the Quick Filter toolbar. The Mail Toolbar contains the Get Message-Write-Address Book buttons. You turn toolbars on and off with the View menu.

Since your Menu Bar is hidden press the alt key to make it appear. When the Menu Bar appears select View-Toolbars and turn the missing toolbars back on.

An alternative way of accessing a menu to activate the Menu Bar and the Mail Toolbar is to right click the blank space to the right of where the Inbox and Calendar tabs are shown. A menu will appear and you can check the boxes to display the 2 toolbars.
