How do I transfer my Thunderbird emails from a Windows 7 pc to an iMac?

I installed Thunderbird on an iMac I just purchased and watched a video about copying the profile folder from my previous computer, a Windows 7 PC. For whatever the reason, I have been able to get my contacts and account info into the new installation of Thunderbird, but rather than taking all of my emails, it took only what it saw as new emails from the last two weeks. I have over 6GB of emails that haven’t transferred to the IMac, and I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong. I watched a video tutorial on the Mozilla website, but it seems the video is describing how to transfer emails from one PC to another, rather than to a Mac, because the last steps described don’t seem to apply to an iMac.
