what anti virus do you use? They commonly block the new account wizard from even connecting to the internet to get the stored information for common providers like Google and Yahoo.

Then we get to more specific products. I recently had the misfortune to encounter Nortons anti virus on a laptop I was installing Thunderbird on. I had to disable the SONAR, what ever that was and the mail scanner before the wizard was allowed to successfully complete.

According to their instructions, the settings are incoming server mail.tpg.com.au on port 110 (POP) or 143 (IMAP), outgoing server mail.tpg.com.au on port 25. For both incoming and outgoing, connection security = none, authentication = password, transmitted insecurely, User name = part of your address before the @.

Do these match what you have in TB?

Thanks for the prompt response - much appreciated. Yes, the settings I have used are as per your response above, (pop3 account) other than the authentication which has the option of normal password.

One detail often overlooked is the User name: some providers require the full email address, some the part before the @, and some accept either one. I never allow the setup wizard to enter the account settings, as they are often incorrect or obsolete. Select File/Offline/Work Offline to go offline, then File/New/Existing Mail Account, enter your credentials, Continue, then Advanced config. to enter the settings manually. Once the account is set up, remember to uncheck Work Offline.
