No distinction between settings for HOME and FIRST PAGE

more options

Both settings for the first page and the HOME page are the same. When I start Firefox, I need an EMPTY page/tab. When I click on HOME, I want a certain page (for example. https://www.google.com/webhp?complete=0&hl=en). Please fix this by separating the two settings. Thanks.

Hi btouburg, this is still possible, but the way to set it has changed. For the sake of completeness I'll describe three related settings:

Home Page

Automatically shown in new windows or when you click the Home button. You can select to use a built-in page, or a blank page, or a custom URL.

Startup Page

Can be set to home page, or previous session windows and tabs, or blank page. In Firefox 62+, the blank page choice requires a visit to the about:config preferences editor:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste startup and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the browser.startup.page preference to display a dialog where you can check/correct the value:

  • 0 => blank page
  • 1 => your home page(s) {default}
  • 2 => the last page viewed in Firefox
  • 3 => previous session windows and tabs

New Tab Page

Can be set to the built-in page or a blank page. To set a different page requires an extension such as New Tab Override: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/new-tab-override/

The problem is that the HOME PAGE is the same as NEW WINDOWS. I know which home page I want. I want a new window NOT to be the same as the home page, but rather an empty page.
