Why can't Firefox v69.0.1 64 bit for Windows select text in Google search results

FF just updated to v69.0.1 64 bit on my Windows 7 PC, and now I can't select text in Google search results. The cursor changes to a hand and pointing finger when moved over the text in Google results. It then behaves as if it's trying to select an area of an image where the entire image moves, and the cursor changes to a black circle with a slash through it. I usually drag and drop images to a local folder like that. I CAN select text from the very beginning or very end of the individual Google results. But I've never had any problems selecting text in Google results like this.

Funny as the 32 bit copy of Firefox v69.0.1 on my Windows 10 notebook doesn't have this problem. And the problem seems to be specific to Google. I haven't noticed any problems selecting text on other web pages.

Anyone else have this problem, or know how to resolve it?

Hi mozfellow, I recently learned that if you hold down the Alt key, it overrides the hyperlink function so you can selected inside a link -- I assume the problem is that the entire result summary is now a link.

Google is constantly experimenting with its results layout. You can scroll to the bottom of the page and provide feedback that the design is a bad idea, then clear cache and your Google cookies to see whether you get the normal design back.

(1) Clear Firefox's Cache

See: How to clear the Firefox cache

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies -- this will log you out, so save any pending work first.

While viewing a page on the site, click the lock icon at the left end of the address bar. After a moment, a "Clear Cookies and Site Data" button should appear at the bottom. Go ahead and click that.

In the dialog that opens, you will see one or more matches to the current address so you can remove the site's cookies individually without affecting other sites.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

I started at 'Privacy & Security > Manage Data' with just searching and removing 'google' cookies, and leaving site / browsing data intact. That fixed the problem. Changes in IT seem to keep us chasing down fixes on a daily basis these days :O ! Thanks for your help with getting this sorted out jscher2000.

Hello mozfellow,

Would you be so kind as to mark jscher2000's post as Chosen Solution ? You have now marked it as "Helpful" (which of course it also is). It's the "Solved the problem" button to the right of his post.

Thank you in advance !
