I imported bookmarks from Safari on my Macbook Pro. When I click on the 'Bookmarks Menu' and 'Other Bookmarks' about half of the folders do not show any bookmarks. However, when I open the Bookmarks through the sidebar, everything shows up....all folders and contents. So all my bookmarks were imported but half of the folders' contents do not show up if I go through the Bookmarks and Other Bookmarks menu. Going through the menu is easier so I hope someone has a solution. Thanks.

If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page

If errors are reported with "Verify Integrity", close and restart Firefox and retry.

If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

  • keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created

Thanks for the quick response. I opened the Troubleshooting Information page, clicked on the "show in finder" button under "Update Folder" and saw the "places.sqlite" files. But I do not see any "Verify Integrity" button. Can you direct me to where it is? Thanks.

The "Verify Integrity" button is further down on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page in "Places Database" under the Preferences section.

Thanks.

The “Verify Integrity” did not show any errors. I deleted the 3 places.sqlite files and the 3 favicon.sqlite files. I then quit Firefox and restarted it. I checked for the files and 2 of the places.sqlite and 2 of the favicon.sqlite files had been recreated. However, it did not help, the same bookmark folders are still empty when I open them using the menus at the top of the screen.

Any other suggestions?

Do you also see all bookmarks in the Bookmarks Manager (Library; Show All Bookmarks) ?

You can add the "Bookmarks Menu" button that shows the bookmarks in a drop-down list to the Navigation Toolbar via these steps:

  • click the bookshelf 57 library icon icon on the Navigation Toolbar or alternatively use the Library menu in the "3-bar" Firefox menu button New Fx Menu drop-down list
  • click Bookmarks
  • click "Bookmarking Tools", then click "Add Bookmarks Menu to Toolbar"
The Bookmark Menu button Bookmark Menu icon (star on tray) should appear on the Navigation Toolbar.

You can also drag the Bookmarks Menu button from the Customize palette to the Navigation Toolbar
