Hello, How do I permit Calibre to use IndexedDB storage in Firefox? I am running Firefox 87.0 on Windows 10. Both are fully updated as of the time of this writing (26 March 2021). In Calibre 5.13.0, I enable "Sharing over the net," then I "Start server," and then I "Test server." Calibre opens a tab in Firefox but returns the following error message: "Error: Could not initialize database You must allow calibre to use IndexedDB storage in your browser to read books" I cannot figure out how to enable IndexedDB storage for Firefox. Thank you in advance for your help, Eric

Hi Eric, are you accessing the site in a regular window or a private window? Unless something changed, private windows don't allow sites to use IndexedDB (disk-based database storage).

Here is an old storage test page as a double-check:

https://firefox-storage-test.glitch.me/

In private windows, the third and fourth tests always fail. If they fail in regular windows, that could indicate a settings problem.

With Moon+ Reader Pro, when I try to connect to the content server listed in Calibre, the attempt times out and fails.

Make sure you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode (Always use Private Browsing mode; Never Remember History).

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
  • remove checkmark: [ ] "Always use Private Browsing mode"

If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) that can block content (Adblock Plus, NoScript, DuckDuckGo PE, Disconnect, Ghostery, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin) always make sure such extensions do not block content.

Firefox shows a purple shield instead of a gray shield at the left end of the location/address bar in case Enhanced Tracking Protection is blocking content. You can click shield icon for more detail and possibly disable the protection. You can check the Web Console for messages about blocked content.
