Incoming emails HTML and missing text issues with Thunderbird update

Hi:

Since the most recent Thunderbird update, incoming emails have not been showing up correctly.

  • Windows 7 machine
  • 91.2.1 (32 bit) Thunderbird
  • no extensions/add-ons
  • View / Message Body As / Original HTML

For any email where I am prompted to "show remote content," allowing the remote content makes images show up, but not text.

If I change Privacy / Mail Content to "Allow remote content in message" more messages display correctly, but there are still messages with embedded text where the text still does not appear. (I had not been allowing remote content previously and messages were displaying as intended, with the occasional "allow remote content" prompt.)

If I run Thunderbird in Troubleshoot mode, all the messages display correctly.

Suggestions?

Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion. The change had no effect.

If hardware acceleration has no effect, try launching in safe mode, 'Reset toolbars & controls', 'Make changes & restart'. Any difference?

That has no effect.

If I run in Troubleshoot Mode, all the emails display correctly, though.

You mentioned there are no add-ons. Does that include language packs, dictionaries or themes? According to the kb article, the only other factor could be a userChrome file, if you have one. Are you using the default theme in normal mode?

Running the default theme. The Extensions tab shows nothing, no add-ons or extensions running or even loaded. I run Firefox (94.0, 64-bit) for my default browser.

I've don't know what else to change if it works in safe mode. See if it works with a new profile, created from Help/More Troubleshooting, about:profiles, and add an account.
