Replies to an email open with cursor in the "To" field
After today's TB update to Ver. 91.2.1, I found when I go to reply to an email, it opens the reply window with my cursor in the "To" field instead of in the body of the email. I keep starting to type, thinking I'm in the body, when TB starting filling in email address suggestions. Then I have to back space and tab to the body to write my reply message.
How do I fix this?

When I open a reply, the cursor is in the body of the message; 91.2.1 32b/W10.
Does it happen in safe/troubleshoot mode (hold Shift when launching TB)?
this does not happen for me when I launch TB in troubleshooting mode. will hunt down the culprit in that case.
So this only happens when I click the reply icon - NOT when I enter ctrl-R to reply. any clue there?!
This morning I tried it with ctrl+R and it still did it. But then I shutdown TB and opened it again. ctrl+R puts the cursor in the body, but clicking the reply icon puts it in the To field. I didn't know ctrl-R is reply. Since I use a lot of ctrl shortcuts I can get used to the ctrl-R.
Thanks to dkapz for the tip.
seems intermittent - sometimes ctrl-R works sometimes not so I have not tracked this down. a fix would be great - this is very odd behaviour!
Now ctrl+R doesn't work either. The cursor went to the To field. However, once I closed TB and then reopened I was able to use the keyboard shortcut.
Not sure if it happens after my screen goes into screen saver or "N" email replies.
hi - what add-ons are you using? wonder if we can find any commonalities here and track down an add on that might be causing this. it worked correctly in troubleshooting mode for me so it in theory ought to be an ad-on I guess.
I've got G-Hub Lite Provider for CalDAV and CardDAV QuickFolders TBSync Thunderbird Conversations Emoji
If it's an add-on, and not a broken layout or hardware acceleration, my first guess would be Conversations.
ctrl + R also sends me to the "to" recipient field, so not a workaround for me unfortunately. Any help would be appreciated, it is quite an annoying little issue :)
I had the same issue and have found that for me, the add-on "Identity Chooser" was the culprit.
When I disabled that add-on, the cursor went back to the body of the email when hitting reply.
My other add-ons (which don't seem to affect this behaviour) are: Border Colours Deselect on Delete TB78 ImportExportTools NG Phoenity Buttons Provider for CalDAV and CardDAV TbSync Toggle Message Pane
I'm sad to have to turn off Identity Chooser as I have so many accounts and am often switching between them/cross messaging.
But until there's a fix found, I'm good to have it disabled in order not to have to wrestle with jumping the cursor around.

Check that you have the latest Identity Chooser, 3.1, and if the problem remains, report in the Issues section:
These are my add-ons.
1) Colored Folders: There is an alert there saying this add-on is incompatible with TB 91.2.1. Disabled it with no change. 2) Compact Headers: There is an alert saying this add-on is incompatible with TB 91.2.1, I really like this Add-on as I do not care for the huge header until I need it and then I can open it to see it when I do. Anyway, disabled it with no change on the problem. 3) Provider for Google Calendars. Disabled, no effect. 4) Thunderbird Conversations: I don't recall adding this add-on. Disabled it and it fixed the problem.
Even thought I re-enabled the Compact Header, it does not work any longer. I'm guessing because of the incompatibility issue.
Perhaps it's this bug on Bugzilla? https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1732558
Reported as a regression in v91 a month ago... apparently waiting until v96 for a fix.

The Compact Headers add-on that works in TB 91:
