prompt forced in on 114.0.1 advertising firefox product

more options

DIRECTLY after 114.0.1 update, I get a CONSTANT UNENDING PROMPT telling me all about firefox , ON EACH AND EVERY SEARCH, I am here to find out how to remove this intentionally annoying, "thing" from MY PC(of course Mozilla couldn't be bothered to tell us they were installing a continuous advertisement for google, and FORCE installing it as search engine). I want this endless advertisement removed, post haste.

Mozilla refuses to help Americans. On 114.0.1, Mozilla FORCE added google as search engine, and until 114.0.2 came out I wasn't ALLOWED to remove google. When did Mozilla gain the right to ruin out PCs without asking permission? Firefox is intentionally made UNUSABLE, because of this FORCED non-stop advertising for google, it's obvious, we have been sold out, so Mozilla gets their millions, and we get a non-working(google) search engine, and a browser company that will not ALLOW any communication, or help, or service. I want this FORCED advertisement removed.

Can you provide a screenshot of the prompt?

I guess English isn't your first language, I have looked at my question for a while, and I can't see anywhere that I referred to a prompt. Nonetheless, the problem is google was FORCED on my PC without my permission, then I couldn't remove it on 114.0.1. On 114.0.2 I was ALLOWED to remove google on my PC, however now all my searches get the exact same WRONG ANSWERS AS GOOGLE. I want Mozilla to take responsibility for ruining firefox with google, so they got their MILLIONS, and we get a completely broken firefox

Hi

It was a fair question given that the first word of your question is "prompt".

You always have been able to choose the default search engine in Firefox. This support article will help:

Here's the full list of changes in Firefox 114.0.1 and 114.0.2: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/buglist.cgi?bug_id=1828073%2C1837408%2C1833793%2C1837830%2C1835790&list_id=16621039

There's nothing about search engines. The hypothesis is that you've accidentally changed your default search engine. Check Settings -> Search -> Default search engine.

Tydrain, according to you, and ONLY you, "nothing about search engines". My search results SUDDENLY matched the ALL WRONG SEARCH RESULTS FROM GOOGLE. That was when I found google was force installed on 114.0.1, and the remove button was greyed out. But I see from your response you haven't read a word I typed.

Sir or Ma'am since you can't be BOTHERED to actually read my post, and your only intention is to cover up the criminal activity and utter lack of help by Mozilla, why not allow someone else to answer.
I have removed google from all my PC's since 2019, and Mozilla just made firefox give all the same wrong answers provided by google. But according to you, I'm lying. You have got to be the most OBNOXIOUS, person I have ever experienced in a support role. Please take your "know-best" attitude somewhere else, you refuse to help, and specialize in making people wrong WHILE INTENTIONALLY REFUSING TO OFFER SUPPORT.
I couldn't have asked for better proof that Mozilla REFUSES to help anyone.
Take a look America, this is the way Mozilla treats the public after they get their millions. There is NO SUPPORT, all we get is SNIDE responses from people that NEVER INTENDED TO HELP. Please do not respond Mr TOP TEN CONTRIBUTOR, I can see you are ego driven, and only provide wrong answers(just like google).

As for the prompt, it is a window that POPS-UP on ALL searches. On the top right corner, I'm constantly HARASSED to add something from firefox add-ons. It pops up on all searches ENDLESSLY, and like google is NOT REMOVABLE thanks to the people of Mozilla.

Take a look America, Mozilla FORCED google search on us without permission, now even after removal, I'm only allowed to get google search results WHICH ARE ALWAYS WRONG. Do we have to file a law suit to get help with firefox? I have been waiting for YEARS TO GET ANY RESPONSE FROM MOZILLA, and now I get an ego driven TOP TEN SUPPORT "person" that couldn't even be bothered to read my question before he BLAMED ME, for changing a search engine.

That button is grey since 2015... It doesn't mean that google was force installed on 114.0.1...

TyDraniu So, your ego just won't allow you to butt-out? Please stop harassing me, you are incompetent, and are only providing WRONG information.

Hi

We are all trying to help you and would welcome your understanding of that.

We have explain how you can change the default search provider in Firefox. If you could attach a screenshot of the prompt that you mention to a reply to this thread, it might help us to better understand what you are seeing

If there is anyone competent at Mozilla(FAKE) support; 1. firefox worked, & the only search engine was DDG. 2. Mozilla prompted me for an update(114.0.1), within an hour of the FORCED install of google, all my search results on DDG/firefox became wrong. I find that google was FORCE installed as my ONLY search engine, and the remove button for google was greyed-out.

114.0.2 allowed me to remove google(the remove button was NOT greyed out), and now all I get are google search results, which are always wrong. As a direct result of 114.0.2, all firefox searches now ONLY provide google results. Try it yourself, the order the results come up in, are different, still the same wrong search results. Does anyone know of a browser that doesn't CONSTANTLY demand to update, that actually has a WORKING support site, competent people, and doesn't FORCE install anything?
more options

I will try this again, I NEVER allow google on my PC's, it only provides wrong search results. Within an hour of 114.0.1 install all search results went loony toons (no right answers). I find that google was force installed without my permission, and the remove button was greyed out. Making Google THE ONLY SEARCH ENGINE.

Update 114.0.2 allowed me to remove google, but now all searches to Firefox use google wrong answers as search results. I don't know how to make this more clear. 1 it worked 2 Mozilla updates to 114.0.1, Firefox only provides the same wrong answers as Google. 3 attempt to remove Google 4 remove button greyed out on Google 5 contact Mozilla, NO HELP 6 114.0.2 released and installed. I can now remove Google as search engine. However now, all search results are the same wrong answers that Google provides. Try it yourself.

Maybe this is resolved by now but just in case...

Changing from Google to DuckDuckGo

If DuckDuckGo isn't listed in the little drop-down for default search engine on the Settings page, try using the "Restore Default Search Engines" button at the bottom of the Search panel (below the Search Shortcuts box) to repopulate the list.

Then reload the page (Ctrl+R).

Does that restore all the choices on your Firefox?

If not, maybe the file that stores customizations for that panel (search.json.mozlz4) is locked or corrupted and needs to be deleted.

Wrong Results on DuckDuckGo

Another user recently mentioned some odd behavior with DuckDuckGo searches. We didn't get to the root of it before DDG went back to working normally. https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1417379

Here is a picture of the prompt that comes up on all searches since it was FORCE installed on 114.0.2.

Thank you for the screenshot. I see that on the right side of a results page after running a search on DuckDuckGo.

I'm not completely surprised that if you visit DDG's website in Firefox, they promote their add-on for Firefox (DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials). It's mentioned on their home page at https://duckduckgo.com/, too:

I don't think this is related to which version of Firefox you're using (I'm running 115.0.1), I think it's a change to the site.

I noticed that if I "X" off that box in your screenshot, the site sets a cookie and both ads disappear (results page and home page). If I later remove the cookie, the ad returns. A lot of sites work that way -- they keep nagging you until you dismiss the nag.

jscher, this FORCE installed CONTINUOUS advertisement for google was installed on 114.0.1, and hitting that X only closes it for that page of search. Otherwise it is a FORCE installed google advertisement that I'm not ALLOWED to remove from my PC. If there were any question about mozilla support being FAKE, take a look America, the force installed advertisement for google is not removable, and there is no help or support.

more options

Take a look America, there is no support from Mozilla. They got HUNDREDS of MILLIONS of dollars from google, and STABBED ALL THE USERS IN THE BACK. Now all the browsers intentionally infected by Mozilla's FORCED install of google provide the same wrong answers as google.

Hi

Worth mentioning that most of us are not in the United States of America and stabbing people is generally frowned upon in most legal jurisdictions (and often comes with a custodial prison sentence). I certainly have no plans to greviously injure users of Firefox.

The advert you have provided a screenshot of is for DuckDuckGo, not Google.

Google is the default search provider for Firefox in many locales, but we have already provided guidance that will help you to change this

The popup on DuckDuckGo search results promoting the DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials add-on has nothing to do with Google. Are you blocking or clearing cookies? When you X off the ad, DuckDuckGo stores that info in a cookie so the site knows you aren't interested the next time you load a page on the site.
