It seems after Firefox 3.6.15 update, the one-click bookmarking star is gone from the awesome bar.

OK, I stumbled upon the problem. I was using Winestrip RealFox theme, which of course eliminates some of the newer features in recent FF builds. I like the original look of a few years ago, so I installed this theme; I like it a lot and I will use; it just removes some of the newer features.
