I want to uninstall, remove Firefox Sync from my computer. I don't know why I installed it in the 1st place. I keep getting that Blue i error message about encountering an error while syncing: Unknown error and it keeps coming up. I just want it off my computer. I have had MANY problems since updating to Firefox 4. I can't get my Adobe flashplayer to update, my e-mail has been changed. I need lots of help or go back to Firefox 3.6! Thanks in advance.

Firefox Sync is built into Firefox 4 and can not be removed. If you do not want to use it you can delete your account.

Go to https://account.services.mozilla.com/ and log into your account, you will then have the option to delete it.

Thank-you TonyE. Now how do I get all the other stuff to work? My computer hasn't been the same since I updated to Firefox 4. Everything was great with 3.6

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems. See:

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

Thank-you cor-el for your reply. I have and older computer running Windows XP. When I installed Firefox 4 a message stated that a few plug-ins were not compatible with the security program I have. My HP printer and some others. I am on Time Warner Cable Roadrunner and my monthly fee includes free CA asso. Security Suite. Everything ran great before I up dated Foxfire to 4. I don't know weather to try to remove 4 or try to restore my computer to a date before I updated. Thank-you again.

Do not use system restore, it causes problems as well as fixing some. It can cause Firefox to stop working.

To go back to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.

You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.

To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.

For details of how to find your profile folder see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Profiles

TonyE,

Thanks again. After reading your post I went into Control Panel and selected the Add/Remove icon to bring up the programs on my computer so I could safely remove Firefox 4. When I got down to Mozzilla it showed Firefox 3.6. Is there a way to see what version I have because I'm almost sure I downloaded #4. That is when all these problems started.

You can see the version in the Firefox > Help > About Firefox window.

TonyE,

I deleted my Sync acct. like you said. Just to make sure I tried to log-in and was unable to connect. Now every time I open Firefox or go to another page there is an error message at the bottom of the page "Sync encountered an error while connecting; Please try again. What is with this? Thank-you again

TonyE,

I have some new issues for you. I have noticed with-in the last few weeks that I am unable to navigate through web sites. For example, when I open the weather website I use the page loads but when I try to select a forecast for any other day it will not advance. Today I went into US Airways to look for flights and was unable to pick a date of departure or return. There was a spinning circle to the right of where I was trying to enter my info that never stopped spinning. It was like the site never loaded completely. I tried another travel site and the same thing happened.I was able to pick dates and destinations, but when I clicked on Select Flight, nothing happens. And my flash player still does not work even though Mozilla says it is updated.

Do you see the Flash player in Tools > Add-ons > Plugins and on the about:plugins page (open via the location bar) ?

cor-el,

I did what you suggested in the 2 websites I had trouble with today and the are both still the same. In the Remove the Cookies: after Show Cookies, I removed them. I do not see Flash Player in Tool> Add-ons> plugins. But earlier, when I started having all these problems, I was directed to Abobe to update/install and I was not able to do anything. I clicked on Install, after 2 seconds the lower left toolbar said done and nothing was done. I'm telling you ever since I updated to Firefox 4 mt computer is a total mess. Nothing works like it used to.
