I have Firefox 4.0 now...but the search bar has gone kaput; it is still there, but any query I write in using ANY of the sites provided will not work...nothing happens. For now, I just enter either a word or two in the address bar or go to my iGoogle home page and use the search bar there.

  • In the location bar, type about:config and hit Enter.
  • In the filter at the top, type: keyword.URL
  • Double click it and remove whatever's in there and replace it with http://www.google.com/search?q=
  • Go to File | Exit and then restart Firefox and try again.

Since the above search engine becomes a link in this forum, right click it and choose Copy Link Location so that you can subsequently hit CTRL+V to paste it. Saves you having to type it all.

@ loki, it might be a good idea for you to start your own thread because your problem sounds a bit more complicated.

If you happen to have "AVG Safe Search" installed, disable it because it blocks the Enter key after typing in a search. See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Problematic_extensions
