I am using Mac OS X to contact e-mail via AoL and am having problems with retrieving stored passwords. Tis is the sequence I use :-

1) Surf to "www.aol.co.uk" 2) Click on AoL Mair to get to 'Sign In' 3) Single (or double) click in 'Screen Name or E-mail' box 4) Up comes a list of screen names. Usually all is well and clicking on the required screen name brings up the password and another click runs Aol

However, some times the list comes up in a different order and then clicking on re required name brings up a blank password. If this happens clicking on "Reload Button" usually reloads the "Sign In" page with the names i the correct order and all is well.

Two questions :-

A) How can I stop this happening? B) How can I remove old screen names from the list?

Thanks for any help

See:

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Hi

Thanks for your help.

The references given showed me how to delete the no longer needed names/password and this I did. That solved one problem

Since then I have not encountered the problem with the initial list, but this was intermittent. However, I hope the deleting of the old names may have solved this to. I will get back to confirm thin in a few days

Hi,

Sorry but although you have cleared the secondary problem (deleting stored names/passwords) it has not helped with the original primary problem.

That problem was that occasionally the name list comes up in a different order. When this happens clicking on a name loads that name with a blank password. The problem is cleared by reloading the page, as the name order is returned to the original one and clicking on a name loads the name and the password as expected

Did you try Safe mode ?

Also make sure that other (security) software isn't locking sqlite files like signons.sqlite that is used by the Firefox Password Manager.

Hi,

'Safe Mode' did not seem to make any difference

I am not sure how I can make sure that other security software is is not locking files, but I do not use any security software other than that in Snow Leopard.

It is also strange that the problem is intermittent and apparently random - I cannot reproduce it at will nor can I identify any particular combination of events which produces it.

I have upgraded to Firefox 4 since I asked the question, but it has not changed the situation
