how do I get the restore previous session

more options

1st how do I get the history menu to have functioning "Restore previous session" and "Recently Closed Tabs" and "Recently Closed Windows" options? They are not usually in black but gray, not useable.

2nd, how do I get to articles which explain things like the history menu and how to use it without asking a question through this process?

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode.

  • You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
  • To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Firefox > Preferences > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
  • Deselect: [ ] "Permanent Private Browsing mode"

All was as you suggested, already, when I went to Firefox Preferences. So thanks, but that's not the solution.

I saw by searching the Internet that 5.0 in a Mac will not always offer these options (Restore session, and 'recently closed tabs' and 'recently closed windows". It seems to decide by itself when to offer those options, because at first today it had all three in black, then went to restore session, now it offers recently closed tabs.

Use Firefox > Quit Firefox if you want to restore the tabs in the current window the next time. Otherwise you close the window and the menu bar is still visible with the Firefox application running.

thanks, that does work, if I quit, to restore the former tabs, but not to restore a tab I inadvertently closed. History drop down menu recently closed tabs and windows would work, but still don't because greyed out.
