When "Open a new tab" is pressed nothing happens. This has just started occuring.

New tabs still appear when a link is followed from an existing web page but when I press "Open a new tab" to the right of the existing page nothing happens. No new tab appears.

That issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
