Ever sence the most recent update to Firefox I can no longer change the size of popout videos on youtube using Firefox. where as other browsers still can. They are locked at what ever size the current popout window is at. The drag anchor shows up when mousing over the edge of the window but it refuses to resize.

Many problems have been caused on Firefox Windows by the initial version of FlashPlayer 11.3.

Try the very latest version released Today

Today a new release of FlashPlayer has been made that is hoped to solve some of these problems. We have had a few positive reports so far.

If you try it please post back with how you get on.

I did go update to current flash. No joy. I still am unable to change the size of popout videos on YouTube using Firefox. I suspect it might be one of the hidden settings of Firefox but not a clue what it could be.

So is your problem that the video will pop-out but then it is not possible to change the size at all. I must say I do not know a preference that affects that, I am not even sure whether it is really Firefox or the OS that affect that.

Most commonly the problem is either pop-outs will not pop out, or unwanted ones appear. Maybe someone else will give an answer.

Meanwhile just some general information

It is possible that running Flash in a sandbox environment is causing this and doesn't allow to resize the Flash object.

You can test that by temporarily disabling this new protected mode feature.

Seems that is the issue Cor-el, adding the line "ProtectedMode=0" to the "mms.cfg" file has made it so I am able to resize again.

How odd that this effects only Firefox and not IE Is there some way taht I can report this issue to the powers that be?

Hi Sumica,

I am glad you fixed the problem after following corel's advice above.

Are you able to say whether you tried the very latest version of Firefox and the latest version of Flash Player. Perhaps you would be willing to try those again without disabling protected mode.

Finally if the problem does persist, and you are wanting to help us, may I suggest you try the following and report back. (It will help us to know whether this is something we need to investigate )

  • ensure you have the latest version of Firefox [1] and Flash Player [2]
  • re-enable protected mode, [3]
  • Use a new clean profile [4] (with FlashPlayer installed of course)
  • Paste the about:support info [5] into your reply
  • disable protected mode [6] again to see if they do resize now
  • Post back with the results, please include a couple of links to problem videos

By following the above steps you will be providing information that should allow others to reproduce the problem and if necessary file bug reports to try to get the problem fixed.

OK first off Firefox says it's up to date with 13.0.1 not sure how to go about getting it to update if it says there isn't one. Flash is current build.

Hi Sumica,

I will try to get advice as to what is best now.
Sometimes developers can reproduce problems and work on them, sometimes they need more information from those who experience the problems.

You tube is a popular site, and a reproducible problem with Firefox on you tube is important, and I may normally suggest filing a bug immediately but:

  • at least you do have a workaround that works: disabling protected mode
  • there are quite a few bugs already filed on Flash 11.3 problems, and developers from Flash and Firefox are still working on issues, it seems other patches/releases may well come out because of the work in progress.
  • however I did NOT see a specific bug relating to the player not poping out

My own notes on some current bugs

  • Bug 766859 - Youtube video has repaint issue in Firefox after scrolling
-- as some could not reproduce that bug, that could be taken to mean some users had no problem with YouTube
    • however that was preceeded by Bug 762948 - Repainting issue of Flash content when scrolling with Flash Player 11.3.300.257
-- that appears still to be work in progress
  • Bug 767782 - youtube does not load videos anymore with the latest vesrion
-- another problem, under investigation, with some informative links, but bug status unconfirmed.
  • Bug 763459 - RealPlayer Browser record plugin breaks Youtube since Fx13
-- a reminder that RealPlayer issues exist
    • but a potential fix 27th June for the Real Player issue: Bug 764210 (#C36) - Blocklist RealPlayer Download Plugin add-ons

Tomorrow, Jun27, we will release a mitigation for the Adobe Flash v11.3/Firefox issue as RealPlayer v15.0.5 (tentatively 15.0.5.109).
The mitigation deactivates RealPlayer plugin when Adobe Flash v11.3 is in Protected Mode.
Outcome: Video Download is no longer available to the customer.
Adobe Flash v11.3 Protected Mode plays in Firefox.
