plugin finder service only has flash 11.3.300.257 NOT 11.3.300.262. Why won't it download the plugin?

When I go to a game that needs flash and click on download now the plugin finder service pops up with flashplayer 11.3.300.257 and it won't install it. Is there a reason 11.3.300.262 isn't there? If not the latest version, why won't it install 257?

You can find the latest Flash player for Firefox on this page.

I had this problem as well and cor-el's solution didn't work. Even though I tried to install Flash from both the MSI and EXE installer the new version never seemed to overwrite the old one. I had a similar problem where Firefox 13.1 didn't update automatically in the background, which I had to install manually. But the new Flash still didn't install even though I repeatedly tried both installers. Even tried uninstalling Flash, which didn't remove the old version as well.

I finally solved the damn problem by completely removing Firefox (history + bookmarks and everything) and Flash altogether, as well as the leftover Mozilla folder in appdata. After having restarted my computer (the Firefox uninstaller prompted me to do so) I reinstalled both Firefox and Flash from the files I had previously downloaded.

Now the shit works and everything is fully updated.

You may have to remove the file of the other Flash version as you may have multiple Flash version installed.

See:

You can see the installed plugins that are enabled on the about:plugins page.

You can set the plugin.expose_full_path pref to true on the about:config page to see the full path of plugins on the about:plugins page. It is best not to leave that pref set to true as it exposes that full path to web servers, so reset that pref to false after you are done with the about:plugins page.
