How do I get PDF function back, I've lost it?
I thought I needed Adobe Acrobat reader for my system. I installed it and then lost the function to download PDF files and I can't get it back. In Preferences/Applications there were still programs listed to do PDF's but PDF's wouldn't open. Then I tried removing Acrobat reader from my system and that didn't work. I tried resetting defaults and that didn't work. Then I've noticed in Preferences/Applications that there is no longer even a program listed to open PDF's.
I've just reviewed your educated guesses and I guess they are correct but I still can't open PDF's.
Help would be appreciated, Thanks

Off the cuff suggestion: have a look at iUse the Adobe Reader plugin to view or download PDF files - excuse me, if you are already past this point.
If the article was no help, I would try Tools > add-ons next and search simply for PDF. The first hit points to PDF download by Nitro PDF software, which according to my own experience with Nitro PDF, is a good bet.

Well, I did download PDF download but I noticed it didn't get good reviews so, I guess I'll know after I try it.
It seems to me that Firefox needs to have a way to re-install the program to the way it was when first installed. This program is very rigid, it's hard to work with it now. I've had Firefox for years and it has never been this hard to work with. It won't be long and I'll be going Safari.
If you are willing to stay with me I have another question indirectly related to the first problem.
When I reset to default the program put a file on my desk top called "Old Firefox Data". How do I re-install that.?

You do not need to re-install it. It is a copy of your old profile after you have reset Firefox. On Reset, Firefox automatically transfers your personal information and it creates additionally a second backup just in case you need it. You can archive it for any eventualities in the future.
see Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings for more on that.
