Before the last Firefox update I could turn off receiving images (with Tools/Options, but somehow now it has changed and I can't find that option to turn off images.

That check box and the one for JavaScript were removed from Options. You can still use the advanced preferences "page" - about:config - but this add-on will restore both those check boxes.

Quick Java allows quick enable and disable of Java, Javascript, Cookies, Image Animations, Flash, Silverlight, Images, Stylesheets and Proxy from the Statusbar and/or Toolbar.
