I was having issues playing streaming videos, and decided to uninstall and reinstall flash player. I am running XP SP3, so I used the add/remove programs and uninstalled it. Now I cannot re-install. I have gone to the adobe site (http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/) and selected to install the player via Firefox, but it failed and suggested manual installation. Selecting that link puts me on the adobe site, but selecting the download button sends me to an advertising page for other adobe products and no download occurs. I ran internet explorer to see if I could download the file and Firefox recognize it, but while it shows "Adobe Flash Player 11 ActiveX" in the installed program list, Firefox knows no difference. Any suggestions?

A virus does not appear to be the problem. I still haven't been able to install from adobe's web site, but I have done a search for the flash player executable, downloaded and ran it directly. This approach put me back in service. Thanks for the help.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back soon.
