I'm using profiles, multiple profiles after getting new PCs . Each profile has multiple accounts ( same accounts) but different date ranges. I'm trying to organize emails by which pc was most in use during a particular timeframe. so I have 3 profiles and they seem to be working OK. But I only started the old ones up and saw that it was working but getting new mail - I don't want new mail in the old accounts/profiles. They're just there to give some historical help if I need old info. My new profile is getting new mail OK.

can I block the old thunderbird profiles from getting new mail? How? I would like to block them without having to "use"/open them so the mail collection process doesn't clutter them up with new mail.

use the command line arguments to start Thunderbird in offline mode http://kb.mozillazine.org/Command_line_arguments_%28Thunderbird%29 then disable the setting in Account setting > server settings re checking mail on startup and on a timed interval. But using a command line argument to start offline and specify the profile to use whould probably the the easist and lest difficult to maintain.

Actually exporting the mail using the import export tools https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/importexporttools/ and importing all mail into a single profile would probably be the best approach really.
