Please make sure your extension is up to date. Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems

Also try to disable hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.

You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

Then perform these steps:

  • Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
  • In the Firefox options window click the Advanced tab, then select "General".
  • In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
  • Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

I turned off Hardware Acceleration, restarted Firefox, no luck. I checked for updates to add on and extensions, none found, no luck.

Are these suggestions for a Windows user? Remember I'm a mac user, OS 10.5.8. I think the graphics drivers are built in to the OS?

Thanks

Hi,

Try navigating to Mozilla's plugin check to see if anything is out of date

I think the QT version is at 7.7.2 or similar

I'm navigating about 5 different support threads so forgive my late response. It's hard navigating between them and my e-mail.

Do you still have this problem in Safe Mode? If you don't, it's most likely one of your extensions/plugins. You can troubleshoot your plugins by entering Safe Mode. Follow the directions below to enter it:

  • Click Help > Restart with add-ons disabled
  • Click Start in Safe Mode in the dialog box that comes up.

If you don't see the problem occurring, it's one of your extensions. You should first disable all extensions then re-enable them one by one to find out which is causing this issue.

No worries, thanks for helping. Restarting in Safe mode with add-ons disabled did not solve the problem.

I'm trying to exhaust every method we have here before the new profile so you won;t have to lose your extensions. You can easily restore your bookmarks, passwords, etc but I don't want you to lose your extensions in case a different method would've worked. However, you should try a new profile.

You can follow the link below to learn how to create a new profile:

Hi prebop, Could you please provide an example website where it works and one were it does not? This may help determine what may be causing the issue. We can test it on the same operating system and see if we can find anything. Thank you.

Hi,

Thanks for offering to help more... the site that's at issue is a university page from a course, only accessible by password. The video's are mp4 and .mov, my operating system is OS 10.8.5, the video's play fine on Safari, but not on Firefox 28.

Thanks again,

Ok, looks like it should support the codec and the file type via http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3775

If you try this add on: Open With is there another player that can play the video? If this is the case the video is the issue.
