I have just installed Firefox 29.0 for Mac. I get a strange behavior of the tab bar and of the location bar with this new version. Instead of the location bar, I get two rows of symbols. And it's impossible to write anything in the location bar. (I'd like to add a screenshot, but I cannot find a way to do it.)

Firefox has a RSS icon in the toolbar palette that you can drag on a toolbar (but not on the location bar container).

  • Firefox menu button > Options/Preferences > Toolbar Layout
  • View > Toolbars > Customize

There is no way (currently) to add a screenshot in your initial post but we are working on that!

Please see How do I create a screenshot of my problem?

Once you've done this, attach the saved screenshot file to your forum post by clicking the Browse... button below the Post your reply box. This will help us to visualize the problem.

Can you try to start Firefox in Safe Mode to see if Firefox works properly with no error? You can start Firefox in Safe Mode below:

  • Windows/Mac: Go to Help > Restart with add-ons disabled
  • Linux: Run firefox -safe-mode in the Terminal/Konsole

If Firefox opens up fine with no problems, it's probably one of your extensions that's causing the issue. You can re-enable your add-ons one by one until you find the one that causes the issue upon being re-enabled.

Dear Moses: Thank you for your reply. I'll try to do what you suggest after I reinstall Firefox 29. (I reverted to Firefox 28, which is working properly.) I have already uploaded a screenshot of the problem. It's below this text in "Uploaded images". Could you please take a look at it? Thanks.

That looks terrible.

A suggestion here. You should stay on Firefox 28 until Firefox 29 gets moved out of Beta and gets released officially (tomorrow) and see if the behavior still persists.

If it still exists, you can try the Safe Mode option I gave above to see if it works.

Thank you for your tip. I found the culprit: it was an extension called RSS Icon 1.0.6. I removed it and now Firefox 29.0 is working perfectly. Now I'll have to find a replacement for that extension. Thank you once again. Your tip was essential.

Thank you for your tip. However, I have already found an RSS extension that I like. It's called "RSS icon in URL bar" (version 1.3). It works perfectly.
