Work windows laptop - latest firefox 30.0

Home MAC (Mavericks) laptop - latest firefox 30.0

On my work laptop I'm signed into my account with email@address.com (as an example). All check boxes ticked under the "Sync my" section (so everything is to be synced).

On my home MAC laptop - under preferences and sync i'm signed into the same email@address.com mail address with again, all tick boxes ticked to sync everything.

NOTHING is syncing.

This used to work flawlessly when using the old passcode method to link devcies, but can't seem to use this any longer.

On my work laptop I have tried to go into "Manage Account" and "Reset Sync" and then selecting "Replace all other devices with this device's data" but this makes no difference trying to sync the data to my home MAC laptop.

I got it working by completely removing and relinking the original work laptop

Thanks for your help

Are both devices using the New Sync and most importantly on Firefox 30.

If they are you do not need the old Sync, and even if you use the same email address as was used for Old Sync everything should be working under the New sync.

I believe the new Sync drops devices that have not synced within the last 21 days.

Both devices using 30.0 as mentioned

MAC is a brand new install of Mavericks so i'm forced to use the new Sync

The work laptop has been using the Sync for years but logged into the same email address on both laptops, not sure about converting to the new Sync but as you say, should work, i don't see a way in the interface of saying anything like "convert to new sync" etc

Logging into both of the links you've given I don't see anything that would solve this issue either

It does not convert, it just adds the device to the New Sync.

The Old Sync is being deprecated, it will cease to exist soon, probably as soon as the Enterprise users upgrade from their special channel on Fx24 to Fx31.

There is no problem using the same email address on both the old and new Sync they are separate.

The new sync is I understand intended to merge new devices, but you may wish to backup profiles occasionally for each devices so that you are not totally reliant on Sync, and doing that immediately before adding a new device could be prudent.

You can not add an Old Sync to Firefox 30 (Well in fact there is a work around method that may do that but it is not intended to be done)

I am not sure I understand, did you un install Firefox & Re install it? my I has to do a clean install on my Win 7 machine. It IS aggravating how Mozilla has completely re modeled the interface, With the problems I have been having with Flash crashing, Firefox crashing, and now unable to sync. I am seriously considering using Opera of Chrome...

Hi Dweezle, Sorry you are having problems. I assume that you have already scrolled and looked at this current thread and any help articles linked from it, although you seem to have multiple problems. Could I ask you to start a new thread by asking your own question and giving full details.

  1. Please use /questions/new/desktop special link
  2. Please try to follow the prompts and include troubleshooting info when you do that. (There is a green button to automate the process. Use that, or if you encounter problems doing so mention that in the new thread.)

Thanks

I have this problem too i just installed latest firefox on my laptop and moved my profile by copying whole profile folder contents. Next i wanted the sync to do the job of keeping everything EXACTLY the same between lap and desk, and sync just doesn't work.

It worked ONCE when i relinked my desktop, after that point it ignores the differences. Say if i create a bookmark on desktop sync ignores that on laptop, so its basically unusable, broken.

I will not reset any profiles, it should be fixable without me losing my years of accumulated data. In the meantime ill be looking into using Google Drive to sync the profile folder lol. Must be much more stable and reliable. PS: ive been trying to use your sync since first version and it was NEVER working as you claimed there were ALWAYS problems and issues, like really guys, how long will it take to produce something simple and WORKING?

sambroadleaf,

Sorry you are having problems. If you want help or if you want to report a fault with how New Sycn works please start your own by by asking a new question see below.

You may be misunderstanding what the new Sync does. Whatever happens backing up your profiles on each machine manually is probably a good precaution.

Everyone

    • Do all devices now use the New Sync ?
      (New Firefox Sync site: https://accounts.firefox.com)
    • Are devices separate on Sync or are they a master device with other devices added to the same account ?
    • Have you now stopped using the Old Sync on all devices ?

I have the same problem since yesterday 07/28/14 I'm signed in with my email address and password but FF is not syncing at all ... it always says Sync encountered an error while syncing. Unknown error ... Sync will automatically retry this action ... server status is OK

JurgenDoe,

I see you have already started a thread of your own as suggested.

Thanks for doing that.

Please continue with your own question thread. The two threads appear to be due to different causes, and this thread is a solved question from someone else. I will close this thread.
