I am getting a delay every time I type in a field as well as when scrolling. Every input is delayed. I can type a few words, scroll half a page and then everything freezes.

I see that this is a common problem but no solution. I have no problem with Chrome.

It is frustrating enough that I am considering moving to Chrome altogether (bookmarks also are almost useless, I can't organize w/o it crashing, but that's another issue that has never worked correctly).

Any fixes out there?

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).
