Try clicking the arrow in a small box to the right of the dropdown - 'Show all the bookmarks folders.'

I have the same problem in Firefox 34.0.5. Sorry Scribe_UK, but you must be using an old version because the arrow does no such thing on the latest version. It does what agcu54 describes. There is no way to put the bookmark in any folder but the last five used.

It seems like every new version of Firefox breaks something.

Click the arrow at the far right (outside) of the folder field (i.e. not the arrow in the folder field, but the one further to the right) in the "Edit This Bookmark" window to access the complete folder list. This full folder list also opens if you click the drop marker in the Folder field and click the "Choose..." item. The full folder window has a button to create a "New Folder" (look for a button with "New Folder" or a "+" under the folder list). If folders in the full folder list aren't expanded (i.e. are closed) then look for a, possibly faint, arrow icon to expand (open) the folders.

No, it doesn't. That's the way it used to work -- for years. I just discovered the change that makes it confusing. "Bookmarks Menu" is in the short list. It has to be clicked to open the rest of the bookmarks. What a stupid change.

To Mozilla, and I use the term loosely, "Support". It appears a number of people have the same problem with saving bookmarks to folders. It also appears that Mozilla does not have any intention of correcting this problem, ergo.........time to find a new browser that caters to it's customers needs.

Hmm, I'm running v34.0 which is the latest version available here in the UK, and the bookmarks work as normal - I have a lot of folders and they're all there, so it looks like a bug in 34.0.5 since I can't see anything in the Changelog. Unless it's an Add-on compatibility issue...

Cor-el is correct in his instructions.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift (Mac Options) > key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause Firefox issues. Disable All of them.

It has nothing to do with add-ons. The list is there, but hard to find because of a change in the latest version. When you open the list with the arrow, the bookmarks are collapsed into "Bookmark Menu." If you click on Bookmark Menu, then it opens up to the folders. Once you've opened Bookmark Menu it seems to stay open in later sessions.

Don't be so arrogant. You don't ALWAYS know what you're talking about, and this is a case in point.

Hi Gene1940, I'm not sure why the menu tree collapsed in your scrollable list box, but I see the same thing today (I have no idea how long it has been this way). I am attaching a copy of the dialog I get when I double-click the star icon and then open the scrollable folder chooser. The dialog that appears with Ctrl+d is similar.

As you discovered, clicking the triangle to the left of Bookmarks Menu, and each folder in the bookmarks menu, allows you to navigate the tree. (It also works to use the right arrow key on the keyboard to expand a folder, and the left arrow key to close it.)

I recall a thread in which one user was using a theme where the triangle had very low contrast so it was not noticeable, but hopefully most users will be able to work out how to expand the tree.

Hi Ray, I think Gene has identified the source of your problem: somehow the previously expanded bookmark tree closed and needs to be re-expanded. Does that work for you? If so, you can mark Gene's post as the solution.

Incidentally, I noticed it is easy to close up the expanded bookmark menu "tree" in that dialog by double-clicking Bookmarks Menu. Double-clicking also opens it again. That might explain how some people run into the issue.

When I select "save this bookmark" it shows 5 folders.. if they are not the one I want I select "choose" then it doesn't show ANY of the folders. If I select NEW, then it shows all of them... Something isn't right here.. small programing glitch, I think.
