Prior to a fairly recent browser upgrade, Firefox stored select passwords correctly. When I changed them I was always asked if I wanted to update them, which it successfully did. Now it asks if I want to update, but when I click 'Update', it doesn't save the change. This happens on every site where I have a saved password. I haven't been able to find any settings to resolve this. Does anyone have any suggestions to fix this? I'm running Windows 8.1 and my browser is version 46.0.1.

Thanks.

Note: Some software, like Advanced SystemCare with Surfing Protection, can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.

You can try this extension to see if that allows to update the password

Note the you can double-click the name and the password field in the Password Manager to edit either name or password.
