All non google related sites open with code instead of content. This also happens when opening Chrome but not Edge which stops responding and opens tabs with ad

Had a problem with Edge where I got a load "not responding" when browsing. I also got tabs opening with adverts (usually relating to security sites). I downloaded Chrome to check and found that allsites opened in code except the normal Google sites (search, e-mail,etc). After uninstall/install many times didn't solve the problem, I downloaded Firefox and was totally not expecting Firefox to have exactly the same problem. Google sites open normally but others (BBC News, etc) open in code. Another strange thing is that Edge has no problem with MSN or Google sites but all others become unresponsive and open advert tabs

Can you attach a screenshot?

  • use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot
  • make sure you do not exceed the maximum size of 1 MB

It is possible that security software (anti-virus, firewall) is causing the problem. Try to disable security software temporarily to see if that makes a difference.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen or hold down the Shift key) to see if that has effect.
