I cannot send a message. It says it cannot connect with my SMTP server; the server data is correct, no template recommendations work. What now?

Thunderbird (TB) captured the info from Windows Live Mail (WLM) correctly. However, my WLM is POP3 and TB set itself up as IMAP. The server info for both incoming (POP3) and outgoing (SMTP) is: mail.twc.com. I called my ISP (Time Warner, (now Spectrum) and asked if the SMTP server info would vary between serving POP3 and IMAP and the answer was "No," it is the same in both cases, but the ports are different; for IMAP incoming would be 110 and outgoing would be 587. What I actually have in WLM is: incoming 593 and outgoing is 587, so that is what TB used for its IMAP setup. It seems that this might create a problem of my not being able to receive mail in TB, but being able to send it OK, but my problem is just the reverse.

Would you please let me know what the port numbers should be for incoming and outgoing mail in TB, and also any recommendations you have for solving this problem will be greatly appreciated? Thank you very much. Richard Hardy

The email provider configures their servers. They define the ports to be used. They are not email client specific. Get the server settings from your provider.

I got the settings for both incoming and outgoing, and entered them in the account setups, but the result is the same. Any other suggestions.
