TB and FF Stop Responding To Clicks. Everything Including the Title Bar Doesn't Respond.

About 2 or 3 times a week both Thunderbird and Firefox quit responding to clicks. And I mean everything including the Task Bar. I can't drag the windows, I can't even get a response to clicking the icons at the top right (minus, window/full screen, X). All my other (non-Mozilla) windows respond correctly. To get things working again I have to open the Task Manager (Windows 8.1) and End Task both TB and FF. If I end only one of them then start it again it will appear but will not respond to any clicks.

Am I the only one experiencing this?

Try to start Windows in safe mode with networking enabled. - Win8 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17076/windows-8-startup-settings-safe-mode

Still in Windows safe mode, start Thunderbird in safe mode. - https://support.mozilla.org/kb/safe-mode

Does the problem go away?

I don't think that would be a good test because rebooting in any mode (safe or normal) will make the problem go away. And it may not return for many days. I would have to maintain safe mode for many days. I doubt I could do the work I usually perform daily while in safe mode. This hang up of TB and FF will occur after using them for days and viewing hundreds of pages and emails. Then I have to ctrl-alt-del and use Task Manager to end both Mozilla programs. Then I can start them and they will run fine. It is frustrating because I may have multiple FF windows open and one or more email messages open as I work. Then FF and TB freeze and I can't do anything with either program. Ending them means it takes a lot of trouble to resurrect the pages and messages and get back to work.

when you have this issue, how much memory are Thunderbird and firefox consuming?

Do you have an common add-ons between the two. Like add blocking add-ons perhaps.

(1) I will get you the memory data the next time it happens.

(2) Weird. In FF I clicked Tools, Add-ons and the first time I did that a new tab opened up in THUNDERBIRD (not FF). It listed: ImportExportTools, Lighting, Manually sort folders, MyPhoneExplorer, PopMailListRecipiants. But these are TB Add-ons. In fact I closed that tab and, in TB I clicked Tools, Add-ons and got the same tab. Then I closed all FF windows, restarted FF and got just one Add-on in FF. "Video Download helper". I have not been able to reproduce the case where, in FF, I click Add-ons and get a tab in TB but I swear that happened the first time.
