Hi everyone,

I use Firefox 59.0.2 on a PC with Windows 10 Home OS.

I tend not to close my browser windows for a very long time, I just open and close new tabs as required, I sometimes have lots of tabs open at the same time. Some of the tabs open at the moment have lot ads in them (stackoverflow, R-bloggers for example) and I don't use adblockers.

At the moment I have got 2 Firefox browser windows open. In one of them I have got 9 tabs. When attempt to close this window (by clicking the X button) the warning pops up: "You are about to close 9 tabs. Are you sure you want to continue?" So this is fine.

In the other window however (my main browser window) at the moment there are 8 open tabs. When I try to close this window, according to the warning: "You are about to close 70 tabs." Where do those extra 62 tabs come from??? Is it just a bug, where Firefox loses track of the number of the open tabs, or is it something more sinister?

Thank you for your help in advance.

It may be the issue with TabGroups extension, or similar.

I used to have the TabGroups extension. After reading your comment I checked my extensions, and TabGroups was still there, as a disabled legacy extension. I removed it, closed both browser windows, then started Firefox again, and restored both windows. The problem unfortunately still persists.

Try to install the extension again (enabled), and check if there any created tab groups.

I don't think I can. I had not disabled TabGroups myself. Firefox turned it off, when I upgraded to Firefox Quantum, because apparently it is incompatible with it. I tried to search for it on the Firefox addons site, to reinstall it, but I can't even find it anymore.
